Onward to the future!

(second update)

Just like this website, I would have to say my life itself is also a work in progress.

Me 2007I am a journalist — reporting and helping chronicle history as a Reporter for GMA News and Public Affairs in Manila, Philippines from 2003-2008.  I was a fresh graduated when GMA Network hired me as a talent-reporter, having been initially assigned to the Crime/Graveyard Shift.  I eventually was assigned to General Assignments in 2005.

In October 2005, I was assigned at the House of Representatives, where I covered debates and policy, not to mention notable stories such as the Garci hearings, and the second impeachment attempt on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and the attempts to amend the Charter of the Republic.  I also followed the Batasan 5 story from start to finish.

In 2007, I was transferred to Malacanang, the Presidential Beat.  Aside from her normal day-to-day activities, being in Malacanang from 2007 onwards meant being there when another coup attempt was hurled against the President, the pardon of Erap Estrada and his release from rest-house arrest.  The 2007 SONA was also a proud achievement.

Politics aside, I am a veteran of Calamities Coverage, having covered mudslides in Quezon Province (2004) and Bicol (2006).  I also covered Mt. Bulusan’s  (2006), and other man-made catastrophes.

I was living a great dream for a long time.  Journalism — being a reporter — was my dream since High School.  But somewhere in between deadlines and reports, my priorities have changed or evolved.  My own principles were strengthened more with time and experience.  I matured, and hopefully even got out of my own quarter life crisis.

So with my priorities different, I made a stand.  On December 20, 2007 — I filed my resignation.  It was time to move on, and look for new avenues for growth, and pursue new freedoms.

True to my love of excitement and adventure — I am entering the unfamiliar, uncharted world of the corporate sector.  A lot of people have asked if I am sure about the decision.  For now, I am.  As to whether I’ll be happy — I realize that it should not depend on what happens over the next few months.  But I’ve always believed that happiness is attained through a conscious choice, and not solely determined passively through circumstances.  And it is attained by pursuing what is truly important.  So it’s a daily, conscious decision to standy by my choices and be happy about them.

My greatest reassurances: I bring with me the tools of integrity, honesty, principle, truth.  My skills and talents.  And most importantly, having great people to continue sharing my life with.

So onward to the future.  Onward to living the best life!
